Travel Restrictions and Requirements by State

PeterGreenberg.com is breaking down the latest travel restrictions state by state.

Alabama:

There are no statewide travel restrictions in Alabama. However, there is a statewide mask mandate effective through January 22nd. You can check here for updates: https://alabama.travel/my-trip/staying-safe/covid-19

 

Alaska:

Visitors to Alaska from other states must do one of the following:

— Submit a travel declaration and self-isolation plan online and arrive with proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of their flight departure, or proof of pending results.

— Follow a plan that your employer filed with the state if you come for work.

— Buy a $250 Covid-19 test when you arrive and self-quarantine at your own expense until you get the results.

— Self-quarantine for 14 days or the duration of the trip if shorter.

Arizona:

There are no statewide travel restrictions in Arizona. Check here for updates: https://tourism.az.gov/covid-19-updates-2/ 

Businesses such as bars and nightclubs, movie theatres, gyms, and waterparks remain closed. 

 

Arkansas:

There are no statewide restrictions in Arkansas. However, masks are sometimes required. Most businesses remain open, but bars and other establishments that serve alcohol must close by 11 p.m. For more information, visit: https://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/programs-services/topics/covid-19-health-guidances

 

California:

California is currently under a regional stay at home order. Masks are required throughout the state. San Francisco has mandated a ten day quarantine for people coming in from outside the Bay Area. Health officials recommend that everyone quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to California. Colorado:

There aren’t any statewide restrictions in Colorado, and the state has a mask mandate.

Pitkin County, where ski resorts Aspen and Snowmass are located, require travelers to:

  • Fill out an online travel affidavit before arrival.

  • Provide a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arriving in Colorado.

Connecticut:

In addition to a statewide mask mandate, people traveling to Connecticut from places other than New York, New Jersey, or Rhode Island, must quarantine for 10 days and fill out the Connecticut Travelers Form. If travelers test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior or after arriving, they do not have to complete the full quarantine period. Delaware:

There are no state-wide travel restrictions in Delaware. The state has a mask mandate and most businesses are open. For more information and updates, visit: https://www.visitdelaware.com/travel-advisory/

 

Florida:

There are no statewide travel restrictions in Florida. The state does not have a mask mandate and the majority of businesses remain open. For more information, visit: https://floridahealthcovid19.gov/travelers/

 

Georgia:

There are no statewide travel restrictions in Georgia. The state does not have a mask mandate and businesses remain mostly open. For more information, visit: https://dph.georgia.gov/covid-19-travel

 

Hawaii:

In addition to abiding by the state’s mask mandate, travelers to Hawaii must quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. To bypass the requirement, travelers can upload proof of a negative test from the state’s Trusted Partners list to the state’s Stay Safe travel port within 72 hours of their departure for Hawaii. They must also have a hard copy with them. Upon arrival, 25% of travelers will be randomly selected to take a mandatory COVID-19 test 

Travelers to the island of Kauai must quarantine for the full 10 days regardless of a negative test result.

Idaho:

There are no statewide travel restrictions in Idaho. The state does not have a statewide mask mandate. For more information, visit: https://visitidaho.org/covid-19-travel-alert/

Some businesses remain open, but nightclubs remain closed.

 

Illinois:

There are no statewide travel restrictions. However, there are restrictions for travelers heading to Chicago. Travelers from Red states must quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. Travelers from Orange states must provide a negative COVID-19 test from within 72 hours prior to departure or quarantine. There are no restrictions for people traveling from Yellow states. Indiana:

Iowa:

Kansas:

Kansas’ travel restrictions vary. Travelers who attended large gatherings with more than 500 people without social distancing must quarantine. The quarantine is between seven to ten days depending on if the person gets tested on the sixth day. There is a statewide mask mandate, but counties may opt out. Most businesses remain open. Kentucky:

Louisiana:

There are no statewide travel restrictions. The state has a mask mandate, and most businesses remain open except for outdoor, and recreation venues such as theme parks and concert halls. For more information, visit: https://www.louisianatravel.com/travel-alerts

 

Maine:

Travelers to Maine from places other than Vermont and New Hampshire are required to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. They can bypass the quarantine if they can provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival. Travelers must also fill out a Certification of Compliance form stating that they have received a negative test result or will quarantine.

Maryland:

Travelers to Maryland from places other than Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, are required to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. They can bypass the quarantine if they can provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival or immediately after they arrive. Maryland has a statewide mask mandate, and most businesses remain open.

 

Massachusetts:

All travelers coming into Massachusetts, with the exception of people traveling from Hawaii, must fill out the Massachusetts Travel Form prior to arrival. They must also quarantine for 10 days or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival.

Michigan:

Minnesota:

There are no statewide travel restrictions, but health officials are asking that people quarantine upon arrival and follow other CDC guidelines. Mississippi:

Missouri:

Montana:

Nebraska:

Nevada:

New Hampshire:

Travelers, with the exception of people traveling from New England states, must quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. Travelers can get out of quarantine early if they are asymptomatic and test negative on or after the 7th day of their quarantine. New Hampshire has a mask mandate, and most businesses are open. New Jersey:

Travelers from states besides New York and Pennsylvania are advised but not required to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. They are also asked to complete a voluntary survey about their travels. The state has a mask mandate, and businesses remain mostly open. New Mexico:

Travelers of high risk states are required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival or the length of their stay, whichever is shorter. New York:

Travelers to New York from all states except  Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont must quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. Travelers can opt out of the quarantine if:

Travelers also must complete a Traveler Health Form when they arrive.

North Carolina:

There aren’t any statewide travel restrictions. However, there is a stay at home order in place between 10PM-5AM until at least January 29. The state has a mask mandate, and businesses must also abide by the curfew. For more information, visit: https://www.nc.gov/covid19

 

North Dakota:

Ohio:

Travelers from states with over a 15% COVID-19 test-positivity rate are advised to self- quarantine for 14 days. The state has a mask mandate. Businesses are mostly open, but there is a stay at home order from 10 PM-5 AM in effect until January 23rd. Oklahoma:

Oregon:

Travelers are encouraged to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival, and nonessential travel is discouraged. Masks are required throughout the state, and many businesses such as museums and businesses are closed. For more information, visit: https://traveloregon.com/travel-alerts/#covid

 

Pennsylvania:

Travelers to Pennsylvania must either quarantine for 10 days upon arrival or provide proof of a negative test that was taken within 72 hours of arrival to the state. *Puerto Rico:

Travelers must fill out a Travel Declaration Form online prior to arrival. They must also show proof of a negative test taken within 72 hours of arrival or they must quarantine. There is also an 11 PM-5 AM curfew in place. Masks are mandatory, and most businesses are closed. Beaches are starting to reopen at limited capacity. Rhode Island:

Travelers visiting Rhode Island from a state with more than a five percent test-positivity rate must either quarantine for 14 days upon arrival or provide proof of negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of their arrival. Travelers must also fill out certificate of compliance and travel screening forms upon arrival.

South Carolina:

South Dakota:

Texas:

Vermont:

Travelers to Vermont must quarantine for 14 days. They can end their quarantine early if they test negative on the 7th day of their quarantine. Virginia:

There are no statewide travel restrictions. However, health officials recommend getting tested before you travel and after you return. Virginia has a statewide mask mandate, and businesses are mostly open. *Washington D.C.:

Travelers to D.C. coming from states with more than 10 cases per 100,000 people must get tested within 72 hours prior to arrival in D.C. If you’re staying longer than three days, you must get a second test. Travelers from Maryland and Virginia are exempt. People traveling for family emergencies or funerals are also exempt.

Washington State:
